Parenting is one of the most fulfilling jobs in the world; unfortunately, it’s not always the easiest. Raising kids in this hi-tech, fast-paced world can be rather a challenge, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. It just means you need to be a bit more careful and creative. Here are some great tips to master the art of 21st-century parenting:
- Give kids independence
Your kids want to do things independently. A tiny baby tries to crawl by themselves, and toddlers love walking on their own instead of being carried. Similarly, growing children want to try out new things for themselves. Activities like cleaning the room after a messy playtime, dressing without help, making basic snacks, etc. are milestones in a child’s growth. Giving children small responsibilities helps to build their self-esteem, whereas coddling them only hinders their personality development.
- Set limits
It’s great to lets kids explore and do things on their own, but boundaries are important too, otherwise your child will become unruly and disobedient. Set limits and rules in the house, instructing your kid what constitutes acceptable behaviour and what doesn’t. However, be very gentle in your handling of the child. Most importantly, make it clear to them that the rules are meant to keep peace in the house and certainly not as a punishment.
